The Key To Sit N Gos

October 24, 2009

Many players will try and play sit n gos, but find they are not making any money. They scratch their heads and wonder what they’re doing wrong.  Should I have done this should I have done that? I hear time and time again. Why aren’t I making any money?

The answer is… nothing. They are probably good players and making the correct plays but find themselves losing money.

When I ask them how many they play, the answer is generally the same. Not enough.

In order to make money at these games, you must be prepared to play a significant amount of games. The reason is you may lose 4, 5 or even 10 in a row. Trust me, it will happen.

You could be a great player but when you only play 2 or 3 games a day, you will not be able to outrun the variance.

Let’s look at this example. If you play 10 games and lose the first 5 but place in the money for the rest you are coming out ahead.

90 man ko strategy

October 24, 2009

Due to the popularity of these games I felt it was only right to devote some time to discuss some basic strategy.

These games are all together a different game compared to most other Mtts or STTs. They have a very rapid increase in the blinds for one. Players also start with 3000 chips instead of the normal 1500.

The main difference is the bounty you receive for knocking out another player. Depending on the buy in, the amount you receive is generally equal to the fee that goes to the site.

Because of the added bounties added to the prize pool, you will many players calling big raises trying to get that extra bonus. It’s because of this that I recommend only playing good cards for the most part.

It’s ok to try and limp in early on hoping to flop a big hand. Only do so with cards that can hit a big flop. For example, connectors and small pairs. Obviously you will be playing your big hands, but beware of getting called by mush weaker holdings and getting drawn out.

The key is not to get discouraged by this and keep playing as many as you can. With such high variance in these wild games you need to put in volume in order to out run the variance.

If you play solid and maintain your chip stack by the later stages your play becomes mostly push fold. Meaning you are mainly shoving all in or folding.

I have found that by playing tight and not even worrying about the KO bonus, that you will find yourself in position to make the money more times than none.

One win in these will pay out very nice and cover any losses you have accrued for some time.

So be patient, and don’t bother with the Kos and you’ll find yourself in the money while other players are watching from the rail because they went for a$1 by knocking a player out with less than decent cards.

Variations of Sit N Gos

October 24, 2009

A new craze in the poker world, are multi table sit n go’s. These games are becoming very popular among new players and even accomplished players are finding these to be a very profitable source of income.

These games include the extremely popular 90 man knock outs on full tilt, 45 mans and 180 mans. Each game offers variations of structure.

The 90 man KO’s are very fast paced and offer a bounty for each player you knock out. You start with double the amount of chips in normal MTT, which allows for more play.

They work just like single table games and start once the designated numbers of players are registered.

A player who is short on time can jump on and start playing a mini tournament so to speak and be done in an hour or so. The payouts are good and I highly recommend trying one out.

How sit and gos work

October 24, 2009

Sit-n-gos’, or STTS are basically a single tournament that starts once the prescribed number of players register. For example, if the table is for 9 players, then once 9 players register, the tournament starts and ends once a single player has all the chips.

There are different variations of STTS, including shorthanded, turbo and super turbo. For the Specialists out there, they also have heads up matches.

These games offer players a good amount of volume since they end quickly. Some players out there will play up to 20 or even 30 at a time.

The blinds go up as would in a normal MTT. Meaning, that every so often depending on the structure of that given game, the blinds will increase. Depending on the structure, the blinds may increase every 3 minutes or slower at 10 minutes.

If you find yourself short on time and are trying to play a tournament, try out one of the many sit and n go, you may find yourself a new avenue to profit from.
